Takeovers

Unadulterated lust is something we all feel. But we keep our feelings at bay, the problem is when that lust goes unchecked. Especially when those feelings are normalized and glorified on a wide spectrum. It's not a question of whether they’re right, but its about what they will cause. While the future is unpredictable, what isn't is the past. History repeating itself is not out of the ordinary.

The feeling had when lust is acted upon can be sweet, these events may evoke feelings similar to the ones felt by onlookers at a Group B rallying event. An event forbidden by time, but with good reason. It was incredibly dangerous, fans lining apexes and trees taking the place of guardrails. Your safety was in jeopardy whether you were a fan or a driver. The auxilarating part of this sport was the skill on display by the drivers, and the engineers who designed the cars. Ultimately though the very reason this sport was so amazing was the same reason it ended.

Its danger commanded respect, but that's not to say danger itself commands respect. The nature of some professions is one of danger It's on the application, and that's something those who take it on accept. A necessary evil so to say, the problem arises though when that evil becomes a whole lot less necessary. Takeovers yield a reward that demands no respect whatsoever. The experience is a cheap fix, and that sweet fix may turn bitter.

Take H20I for instance, a once anticipated experience in Ocean City. Bastardized in the eyes of outsiders, and ruined for everyone involved. Today as much as anytime a reputation goes a long way, and takeovers aren't helping whatever good reputation car enthusiasts have left. Venues, and sponsors may be less likely to endorse a community that was just on the news last week for whatever embarrassment took place. Which can spell the end to your favorite annual show. Police presence may be amped up in your local county, leaving your town full of enforces in rut, horny to pull you over for the suspicion of anything.

I'm not writing this to say donuts and tire smoke isn’t cool, I'm writing this to show how important our reputation is. It only takes a few more incidents, or a few more police chases until new legislation is passed making it even harder to be a car enthusiast. As previously mentioned the best guess towards the future is our past. It will keep reminding us that the actions of few spell trouble for many.
